Cancer Vaccines: Raising a T Cell Army

Vaccines against various forms of cancer prime the immune system to attack.

Scientists are developing vaccines to treat cancers, not just prevent them, and research into vaccine targets and delivery systems is extensive. Most of the vaccines under investigation prompt T cells to attack and kill cancer cells, but because tumors can evade the immune system, combination treatments may be necessary to elicit a sufficient immune response.
