Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are cell-to-cell communication vehicles and mediators of numerous physiological and pathological mechanisms. Because EVs reach their intended targets with greater specificity than many existing pharmaceuticals, researchers are interested in their potential as therapeutic delivery vectors. However, consistently producing clinical-grade EVs in high quantities requires that EV production takes place in physiologically-relevant environments. 3-D production systems such as hollow fiber bioreactors (HFBRs) offers scientists the ability to generate high-quality EVs for research and therapeutic applications.
